Avoid Spreading Illnesses

During the winter, diseases like the flu, pneumonia, strep throat and the cold become easier to catch and transmit. And, although these illnesses generally don’t pose a serious risk to those in good health, you can keep everyone as healthy as possible by following these tips:
- Wash your hands with soap and water before eating, after using the restroom, and after you cough, sneeze or blow your nose.
- Cough or sneeze into your arm instead of your hands. This will limit the chance of spreading germs when you touch something.
- Don’t leave your home if you feel sick. Even if you feel like you can go to work or get some errands done, you may expose those around you to any disease that’s in your system. Additionally, you should keep your children home from school if they’re feeling ill.
- Get vaccinated during the flu season. Vaccinations help to limit the spread of the flu not only in your family, but in your entire area. For that reason, health officials recommend that everyone older than 6 months get a flu vaccine each year.
